LAURA FYGI - From here to Tokyo

It’s that typical Dutch saying when somebody is really famous. Famous from here to Tokyo.

In fact, in Laura’s case it is really true.
Laura Fygi is a great singer with a unique voice.
Capable of delivering the great tunes of our time in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese (even in Chinese).

She combines easily and with great enthusiasm the different genres and styles of today’s’ beautiful songs.
She has recorded 11 albums over the last 18 years. The albums are on the market in more than 30 countries, indeed from HERE TO TOKYO, and everywhere in between.

The story of her life is pretty well known in the meantime and reads like a fairytale.
Her father, MD of a Philips Company, gets married to a beautiful, Egyptian belly dancer. They have this beautiful daughter Laura. The family moved to Montevideo, Uruguay, before landing back in Holland.
Laura started singing before she started to learn how to walk. As a member of Dutch sexiest girls group CENTERFOLD, she tours Europe and Japan extensively.
Her manager at the time became A&R Director of Holland’s biggest record company and launches Laura’s solo career.

That’s the way it went. Just like a fairytale.
Some fairytales become a reality. With renowned Dutch producer Ruud Jacobs (a famous jazz bass player) she recorded her first solo album with contributions of Toots Tielemans and Philippe Catherine. The album was awarded with the prestigious Dutch Edison Award (the Dutch equivalent for the US Grammies).
The album reached the golden and platinum status and was released in almost every country in the world.

Since her debut she has worked with the biggest names in today’s music scene.
Recorded a duet with Michael Franks. Recorded an album with Michel Legrand (who even wrote a song for her).

Her career was highlighted with a big sold out concert in Holland’s most respected venue, the Royal Carre Theatre, accompanied by the famous Metropole Orchestra.
A live album and dvd were released of this performance.

What is the secret of her success?

Difficult to answer. It is that unique mix of being a very gifted and talented singer with a very warm and special voice. Her timing and phrasing is great and she has been often compared with Peggy Lee and Julie London.
She has a very appealing charisma which enables her to perform at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club in London and at all big venues and jazz festivals around the world.
She sings Latin and jazz, she swings but her real talent is her ability of telling the story, like you have never heard it before. Straight from heart to heart.
Laura Fygi has been around for almost 20 years now.
She has toured the world, played the biggest venues in Europe and Asia.
Her album “Bewitched” was in Billboard’s Jazz charts for weeks. A unique achievement for a Dutch artist.

And the story continues.

The best is yet to come...
